Sildenafil, which is also known as Viagra®, is a PDE5 inhibitor that helps relax the muscles in the walls of blood vessels and improves blood flow to certain areas of the body. The action of Sildenafil on the penis, called erectile dysfunction, is not affected by sexual stimulation. However, sexual stimulation may occasionally produce unwanted side effects such as headache, flushing, or upset stomach. This is normal and not an indication of sexual dysfunction. Viagra is not a cure for erectile dysfunction and will not work without sexual stimulation.
Sildenafil is available in various forms, including tablets, oral suspension, topical gel, and injections.

The first is a case in which generic drug makers sold a product to consumers in a "revised" manner to the FDA in the hopes of increasing sales of the product. The second is a case in which a generic drug maker sold a product to consumers in a "prescription" manner in order to promote its products. In both cases, the drug was in violation of the FDA's new labeling requirements.
"The FDA's decision to recall generic drugs is an indication of serious violations that we're not aware of in this matter," said Mark S. Hanburton, FDA's director of regulatory affairs.
In the first case, Hanburton said, the FDA asked the agency to review the case and issued an order that readjusts the product as a "prescription." The FDA issued a final order that said the generic drug maker did not have to show that the product was "improperly advertised." In the second case, FDA issued a "no marketing" order. The agency said it had received an additional "black box" warning letter from the manufacturer of the product. Both cases were in effect.
The FDA also said that it is reviewing the FDA's recall of the drug for "use in advertising."
